He is best known for his portrayal of the Sherriff of Nottingham in the 1950’s TV series of Robin Hood opposite Richard Green as Robin Hood.
Other TV productions that he regularly appeared in include, the title role in the BBC TV series Sherlock Holmes, Danger Man, The Avengers and Dr Who where he played the first character to be killed on-screen by a Dalek when he appeared as Thal leader Temmosus in the 1963–64 series.
In 1949 he appeared alongside Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne in the film Its’ Not Cricket – he played the role of Felix (pictured).
