Michael Brailsford

Michael Brailsford was a child actor in the 1940’s. 

Born in Notiingham on 3rd Novemember 1930 he appeared in three films, two of them for Ealing Studios.  His first appearance was in the Boulting Brothers' The Guinea Pig in 1948 and in the same year he appeared as The Errand Boy in Ealing Studios' Another Shore.  In 1949 he played the uncredited role as the ‘Boy on a Bicycle’ in Pasport to Pimlico.

Little is known about his acting career after this period.

He died in 2005.

Terry Randall

The Welsh actress Terry Randall was born 30th October 1914; her real name was Collier but she adopted Randall as her stage name.

She appeared in a number of British films during the 1940’s and 1950’s most notably as the Lancashire girl Annie Earnshaw (pictured) in the WW2 classic Millions Like Us.

Other films that she appeared in include I’ll Turn to You 1946, Laburnum Grove 1946, The Courtneys of Curzon Street 1947, Nothing Venture 1948, What A Carry On! 1949, School for Randle 1949 and Satellite in the Sky 1956.

John McGuire

John McGuire, born 22nd October 1910, was a film actor during the period from the 1930’s through to the 1950’s.  In many of his early films he was a leading man; however, later in his career he was forced to play bit parts. 

He mostly appeared in American films but for British audiences his most memorable role would have as Hugo Flitch (pictured), or rather the voice of, the Ventriloquists Dummy in Ealing’s horror film Dead of Night.

He died 30th September 1980 in Dublin.

Kenneth Griffith

Kenneth Griffith the welsh actor and filmmaker was born 12th October 1921.  He started acting almost straight from school – his first job was in an ironmongers which lasted for one full day.

His acting career was interrupted when in 1939 he volunteered for the RAF just before WW2 broke out.  Invalided out of the service in 1942 he recommenced his acting career appearing in dozens of films and TV series up to the 1990’s – he made almost 120 appearances including his role as a mad old man in 1994’s Four Weddings and a Funeral.

In 1949 he had a part in the madcap comedy Helter Skelter – he played the part of Nick Martin's (played by David Tomlinson) BBC Colleague (middle in photo)

Some of the films that he appeared in include; Black Sheep of Whitehall 1942, The Forest Rangers 1942, two versions of the Shop at Sly Corner – 1946 and 1947, Waterfront 1950, The Prisoner 1955, Private’s Progress 1956, 1984 released in 1956, Blue murder at St. Trinian’s 1957, I’m Alright Jack 1959, Suspect 1960, The Frightened City 1961, Heavens Above! 1963 and Rotten to the Core 1965.  There were of course many more films that he appeared in.

From the 1960’s onwards his TV career flourished appearing in shows such as Paris 1900, as Charles Buddenbrooks in Buddenbrooks 1965, Perils of Pendragon 1974 and the late 1980’s Shaka Zulu.

He died 25th June 2006.

David Ward

The Lancastrian actor David Ward was born 10th October 1916.  He appeared in a number of British films during the 1940’s and 1950’s mostly in uncredited roles.  Probably his most well known appearance was in the film The Life and Death of Colonel blimp where he played the part of Kaunitz (pictured).
 
His first film appearance was in One of Our Aircraft is Missing in 1942.  He also appeared in the 1949 film Helter Skelter in the role of the Ghost.
 
Other films that he appeared in include Yellow Canary 1943, Hotel Reserve 1944, The Rake’s Progress 1945, I See a Dark Stranger 1946, Blanche Fury 1948, Murder in the Cathedral 1951 and The 23rd Mission 1953.

Glynis Johns

The husky voiced actress Glynis Johns was born 5th October 1923.  The daughter of actor Mervyn Johns she is probably best known for her light comedy and playful roles – although her most famous role was as Mrs. Winifred Banks (pictured), the children's mother in the Disney musical Mary Poppins (1964).
 
She was more active in films during the 1940’s and 1950’s before developing a very productive TV career from the 1960’s onwards – her last appearance was as Grandma in 1999’s Superstar . 
 
Just a few of the many films that she appeared in are: South Riding 1938, The Briggs Family 1940, The 49th Parallel 1941, The Halfway House 1944, An Ideal Husband 1947, as Miranda Trevella in Helter Skelter released in 1949, No Highway in the Sky 1951, Land of Fury 1954, Loser Takes All 1956 and the cabinet of Caligari 1962.

She appeared in numerous TV productions including: the title role in Glynis 1963, Lady Penelope Peasoup in Batman and as Trudie Pepper in 1988’s Coming of Age
