She was probably best known for her roles in David Lean's This Happy Breed 1944, Oliver Twist 1948 and Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. 1951 as well as her role as Grandma Huggett in the Huggetts film trilogy.
For Charters and Caldicott fans she played the role of Mrs Blythe in Millions Like Us in 1943 which starred Eric Portman, Patricia Roc and Gordon Jackson.
She came to films in mid-life and was generally type-cast in motherly or housekeeper roles although she was equally effective as an occasional harridan, notably as the bed-ridden dowager Mrs. Winterbourne in Blanche Fury 1948.
Other films that she appeared in include the 1931 version of Hobson's Choice, Lorna Doone 1934, Madonna of the Seven Moons 1945, Good Time Girl 1948, Madeleine 1950 and one of her last roles as Grandma Cooper in Doctor in The House 1954 among many more.
