Arthur Hambling the actor was born 14th March 1888. He was a well-known British actor during the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s appearing in dozens of films. He died in December 1952 shortly after appearing in Terror on a train which was released 1953.
He was probably best known for his appearances in Pimpernel Smith 1941 (as Jordan), Odd Man Out (as Tom) 1947 and as Wallis in The Lavender Hill Mob 1951.
For fans of basil Radford and Naunton Wayne – he appeared alongside them as The Barman in Its’ Not Cricket 1949 (see photo).
Some of the other films that he appeared in include Night in Montmartre 1931, Lorna Doone 1934, South Riding 1938, as Detective Sgt Richards in The gaunt Stranger 1938, Gert and Daisy Clean Up 1942, Johnny Frenchman 1945, It Always rains on Sunday 1947, The Squeaker 1949 and The Happy Family 1952.
