Cyril Gardiner (also spelt Gardner) the actor was born 30th May 1898. The French born actor was originally christened with the surname Gottlieb and like many others of his generation with Germanic originating names changed it at the outset of WW1. He started his acting career (with the name of Gottlieb) in 1913 but a face scarring accident temporarily curtailed his acting career whereupon he focused on his film editing, producing and writing talents. However during the 1930’s and early 1940’s, he resumed his acting career appearing in a handful of films; the first one being Designing Women in 1934. Other films that he appeared in include; The Last Voyage of Captain Grant 1938, Geneva 1939 and John Smith Wakes Up 1941. His final appearance was in the Charters and Caldicott film Crook’s Tour in 1941 – he played the part of the German Agent K7 (pictured) He died 30th December 1942 |
