The English actor Hugh Cross was born 24th September 24 1925 as Cecil Hugh Cross. He was a well-known TV actor throughout the 1950’s to the 1980’s but he also had a film career during the 1940’s.
His first appearance was in the uncredited role as the ’Man at the Dance Hall’ (pictured) in 1943’s Millions Like Us which co-starred Patricia Roc, Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne.
His other film appearances include: Warning to Wantons 1949, Spring Heeled Jack 1950, Seven Days to 1950 and Svengal in 1954. He also appeared twice as William’s older brother – Robert Brown - in the two 1940’s Just William films, Just Williams Luck and William Comes to Town. Interestingly he played the part of Williams father – Mr Brown in the 1970’s TV series of Just William.
Just a few of his many TV parts included appearances in 1958’s Starr and Company, The Men from Room 13 1961, 1963’s The Desperate People, Orlando in 1966, The Flaxton Boys 1970 and Brett in 1971.
He died 14th May 1989.
