
For fans of David Lean’s films, he played the part of Abel Magwitch in Great Expectations 1946.
For Charters and Caldicott fans, he played the part of a fellow tourist on the tour bus that broke down in the desert, in their 1941 film Crook's Tour.
He appeared in six films that were Oscar nominated comprising Great Expectations 1946, Qou Vardis 1951, Ivanhoe 1952, Around the World in Eighty Days 1956, Ben-Hur 1959 and Cleopatra 1963.
Some of the many other films that he appeared in include The Day Will Dawn 1942, I Know Where I'm Going 1945, Sleeping Car to Trieste 1948, Whisky Galore 1949, The History of Mr Polly 1949, The Mudlark 1950, Footsteps In the Fog 1955 and Murder at the Gallop 1963.
He died in 1968 at the age of 90.
