Probably his most famous role was as Caldicott in Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes (1938) and he went on to reprise the role in other films: Night Train To Munich (1940), Crook's Tour (1941) and the WW2 home front film Millions Like Us in 1943. The comedy duo appeared as similar characters in other films including Dead of Night (1945), A Girl In A Million (1946), Quartet (1948), It's Not Cricket (1949), Passport To Pimlico (1949), Stop Press Girl (1949) and Helter Skelter 1949.
Other films that the Welsh actor appeared in include Going Gay (1933), A Girl Must Live (1939), Double Confession (1950), Happy Family (1952) and The Titfield Thunderbolt (1953).
He also had a successful stage and radio career both in his own right and also in the comedy duo with Basil Radford.
He died 17th November 1970.
