As well as five Carry On films, Ward also appeared in four Norman Wisdom films and six made by the Boulting brothers. For the Carry On films he played the photographer in Carry On Regardless, the 'Man in Tweeds' in Carry On Cabbie, 'Archimedes' in Carry On Cleo, 'Vivian the Window Dresser' in Carry On Screaming and 'Andre the Wigmaker' in Carry On Don't Lose Your Head.
The BFI credited Michael as delivering one of the funniest one liners in British film history, as the effete gentleman in tweeds who alights from Kenneth Connors' black cab and says "What! With tweeds!"
In addition to the above films he appeared in the 1949 Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne film, Stop Press Girl where he played the part of the Hairdresser’s Manager (pictured). He also appeared in another film with the two actors in the same year – Helter Skelter - where he played the part of a News Reader.
In the early 1960s television started to take over Ward's career, and until his retirement in 1978 he appeared in (amongst many others) The Jack Benny Programme, The Avengers, The Morecambe and Wise Show, Dixon of Dock Green, The Two Ronnies, Armchair Theatre, Rising Damp and Sykes.
After making what would be his last ever screen outing in 1978's Revenge of the Pink Panther, Ward suffered a stroke which forced him to retire. He finally died on 8 November 1997 at St Mary's Hospital in London. He was eighty-eight.
