The British actor Robert Wyndham was born 18th September 1905 in Maidstone, Kent. He appeared in a small number of films, most notably Champagne Charlie (1944), Dead of Night (1945) and Against the Wind (1948).
In Dead of Night he played the part of Dr Albury (pictured) in the ‘linking story’ segment.
Other films that he appeared in include; For Those in Peril (1944), While Nero Fiddled (1944), The Captive Heart (1946), Secret Flight (1946), The Hangman Waits (1947) and Who Killed Van Loon? (1948).
He died 19th August 1947 in Pevensey Bay, East Sussex. This was what was recorded in the local newspaper, The Straits Times, 21 August 1947:
EASTBOURNE, Wednesday [20 Aug 47]-The body of a one-armed man clad only in bathing trunks was washed ashore at Pevensey Bay this morning. It is believed to be that of a London actor and producer, Robert Wyndham. He was found on the beach by a local fisherman. Wyndham was an ex-RAF pilot and broke into British films during the war. He appeared in "For Those in Trouble," [sic!] "Champagne Charlie," "Dead of Night" and "The Captive Heart." He lost his arm in an air crash while filming "Test Pilot."
