Viola Lyel the stage and film actress was born 9th December in 1896. The British born actress had a highly regarded stage career which flourished on both sides of the Atlantic. One of her more renowned roles was as Maggie Hobson in the 1931 film version of Hobson’s Chioice.
Other films that she appeared in include A Political Party 1934, Over the Garden Wall 1934, The Fame of Grace darling 1939, The Farmer’s Wife 1941, A Voice in the Night 1946, The Shop at Sly Corner 1946, Black 13 1953 and Suspended Alibi in 1957.
She also appeared in Its’ Not Cricket 1949 alongside Basil Radford and naunton Wayne – they played the parts of Major Bright and captain Early against her minor role as ‘the Hearty Female’.
She was born as Viola Mary Watson in Yorkshire and died in London in 1972.
